    Anthony Bourdain: Parts ...

    documentary

Bourdain travels the across the globe to uncover little-known areas of the world and celebrate diverse cultures by exploring food and dining rituals. Known for his curiosity, candor, and acerbic wit, Bourdain takes viewers off the beaten path of tourist destinations – including some war-torn parts of the world – and meets with a variety of local citizens to offer a window into their lifestyles, and occasionally communes with an internationally lauded chef on his journeys. Bourdain takes a personal journey through this formerly bohemian New York City neighborhood, as he meets, shares meals and reflects with music, film and art trailblazers including Richard Hell, Deborah Harry and Chris Stein, Lydia Lunch, Fab 5 Freddy, Danny Fields, Amos Poe, Jim Jarmusch, Kembra Pfahler, John Lurie, Clayton Patterson and Harley Flanagan, whose collective cultural impact in the 1970’s and ’80’s has sustained through the decades. Bourdain’s relationship with his crew, the team that traveled with him and slogged through the trenches, was like no other in his life. In this episode the people who made Parts Unknown select moments from their episodes and pull back the curtain, to talk about collaboration, creative freedom, moments when Bourdain had their back or called them out, the times when he was caught off guard or forgot the cameras were even there. Bourdain travels to the untamed land of Big Bend, Texas near the Mexican border; an area that pits man against nature and in which the land usually wins. Bourdain shares meals with working cowboys who have made peace with the rough terrain, and meets with an anthropologist who decoded prehistoric landmark, the White Shaman wall painting. This episode explores how Anthony Bourdain’s unique perspective and voice altered the world of food, travel and culture and in the process reinvented how audiences watched television and engaged intimately and actively with the world around them. A shadow puppet performance provides an entry into understanding Indonesia, a country comprised of thousands of islands whose people endured political turmoil, and one in which, Bourdain discovers, food is the great unifier. In this fourth largest country in the world, every area has it’s own unique traditions. In Jakarta, Bourdain eats at a Padang Restaurant where nearly every menu item comes to the table; while in Bali he visits the beach, commenting on yoga before joining in a traditional Balinese Funeral ceremony.

    Animal Practice

    comedy

Animal Practice is a new comedy centering on Dr. George Coleman (Justin Kirk, Weeds, Angels in America), a top veterinarian with an impressive list of famous animal patients at the Crane Animal Hospital - a bustling New York City veterinary practice where it often seems as if the patients are running the place. Despite his unorthodox style, George has an undeniable gift with animals of all kinds - except the human kind. Much to his chagrin, George recently learned that his ex-girlfriend, Dorothy Crane (JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Better with You), has inherited the family business and is now George's boss. Whip-smart and ambitious, Dorothy shakes up the hospital as she brings order to the chaos and butts heads with George's animal-friendly administration. Tyler Labine (Reaper, Sons of Tucson) plays Dr. Doug Jackson, a vet who's great with animals, but hapless in matters of the heart; Bobby Lee (Harold & Kumar) stars as Dr. Yamamoto; Kym Whitley (We Bought a Zoo) stars as Juanita; and newcomer Betsy Sodaro (The Nick Show Kroll) stars as Nurse Angela. Dr. Rizzo, the resident capuchin monkey at Crane Animal Hospital and George's closest companion is played by Crystal (The Hangover II, NBC's Community). When George’s Mother invites him to Thanksgiving Dinner, George forces Doug and Doug’s dad to join them only to discover there might be sparks between George’s Mom and Doug’s Dad. Meanwhile, Dorothy spends Thanksgiving with Juanita’s family and Angela sets out to distract Yamamoto from calling his wife. Dr. George Coleman and Dorothy Crane disagree on how best to deal with an overweight dog, “Ralphie,” and the over-indulging owner who is over-feeding him. George prefers threats and humiliation while Dorothy prefers a gentler approach. Meanwhile, Dorothy establishes a weekly “snack & chat,” which conflicts with the guys’ poker night. George begins treating a cockatoo that keeps mysteriously ingesting chocolate. While George tries to manage the eccentric owner, Sabrina French, Doug sets his sights on the socialite granddaughter, Tinsley French. Dorothy begins a movie night but when only Yamamoto shows up the two make the most of it. Meanwhile, Angela and Dr. Rizzo have to call the cable guy when their favorite legal program “Law of the Jungle,” is interrupted. Smitten with the cable guy’s take-charge manner, Angela schemes to get him back ASAP. George begins to feel threatened with Jill's strong new presence at the hospital. Annoyed by this increasing competition, George attempts to sabotage one of Jill's operations. Meanwhile, Dorothy takes on judging Crane Animal Hospital's Halloween pet costume contest and struggles with the temptation to take a bribe. When George's overbearing mother Virginia shows up at the hospital with her sick cat, George must heal the cat or risk the alternative - having to keep her company to fill the void. Meanwhile, Dorothy counsels Dr. Leiter who must face the board of directors before she can settle in at the hospital.
